‘Back to the 40’s Cloncurry WW2 experience
August 15 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
‘Back to the 40s’ will celebrate Cloncurry, and the Outback’s, unique role as a military base of operations during World War 2. Cloncurry was an important base and refuelling stop for United States B-17 Flying Fortresses, Dutch forces evacuating Java, and Australian forces.
The event will showcase this history through a 1940s Big Band and dance in the wartime era Shire Hall to launch the military history trail. The trail will be a legacy of the event and provide an ongoing draw card for tourists to visit Cloncurry and the Outback, exploring the unique history of the region.
